Lone survivor speech
What’s the worst injuries you’ve ever had in one sitting? Have you ever been shot numerous times, broken your back, have your tongue bit in half, broken your pelvis, had the skin from the back of your legs peeled off?. In September of 2005, four Navy seals went behind enemy lines in Afghanistan to confirm a Taliban target who had been beheading over twenty U.S Marines. That means, he cuts their heads off with a machete.
Marcus Luttrell, Matt Axelson, Michael Murphy and Danny Dietz were all partaking in a reconnaissance mission when they were compromised by a couple of farmers out walking their goats. From here on life doesn’t get much easier for the four navy seals, they are taken into an outmanned gunfight where they are having to trust each other with their lives. Endurance is shown when the four men begin to defend their position in fighting the enemy, this results in the four navy seals jumping off two cliffs to survive whilst sustaining severe injuries. Marcus is left alone when all three of his best friends are killed.. he is the lone survivor. I am going to show you a short clip of the four seals jumping down the cliffs to survive.
When Marcus came home and recovered from his surgery sessions he decided to tell the story about the events that occurred during September in 2005. He began by writing a book called “Lone Survivor” it did so well that he received many movie contracts from directors in Hollywood, but Marcus did not want a movie made, he thought that if they made a movie they would screw it up. After a while, he received a film contract by Peter Berg, and for some reason, Marcus was attracted to this, maybe because he felt as though a film was needed to show what he and his companions had endured. Peter said that if they were going to make the film Marcus could help direct it to make sure it was the real deal. Marcus said, “if we’re going to do it, we’re going to do it right.” They called the film “Lone Survivor”.
Mark Wahlberg, Ben Foster, Taylor Kitsch and Emile Hirsch all played the roles of Marcus, Matt, Michael, and Danny. They all knew they had to work very hard to make it as realistic as possible, they did not want to let the families of the lost soldiers be offended in any way. All four actors went to the hometowns of the deceased seals where they met the families and discussed their sons and husbands lives (which were the seals that died). When making the film the actors had ex-navy seals teaching them all the technical aspects to being a seal, such as the way they walked, talked and shot their guns. For the actors this
For the actors, this was very hard work. During the filming one of the actors (Mark Wahlberg) was standing beside a mortar, it went off almost taking his head with it.
in our everyday lives we take safety for granted, yes we still have the risk of death whether it is driving in our cars to work or flying to another country for a holiday. These service people are sacrificing their lives every day so that we the world can live at peace in our own homes and not have to worry about terror and havoc. Being a seal is not easy, only 6 percent of navy seal applicants meet the requirements, they have to be mentally and physically very strong. Everyone here should be grateful for what you have because there are a lot of men and women out there risking their lives for it.
This shows that the marines have to put their bodies on the line and show mental strength because during the act that took place in September of 2005 these 4 men had been shot several times, had great injuries and still carried on protecting their teammates never taking surrender as an option. There is a strong culture in the seal community to never give up, look after your teammates before yourself and trust that they look after you. Without these people, the world would be a much different place and the world as we know it could have been much different.
